Iran Press/Europe: Kazem Jalali pointed out the current lack of sufficient mutual understanding between the two countries and urged Iranian traders and businesspeople to increase their travel and activities in Russia to enhance bilateral relations. “We need to work on improving our understanding, which is currently weak. Iranian businessmen need to engage more and increase their visits to Russia,” he explained.
In his remarks, Jalali also highlighted the need for Iran to digitalize its customs processes, which would improve efficiency in trade. He called for further development of the North-South transit corridor, which includes an eastern route through Kazakhstan that connects to Russia, with a current capacity of 15 tons of goods. He emphasized the importance of expanding logistics and enhancing Iran's coastal infrastructure to facilitate smoother trade routes.
The Iranian ambassador acknowledged existing challenges in the financial and banking sectors but noted that significant efforts had been made in recent years to address these issues. “Some of our banks have established good and substantial relations with Russia, which is a positive development,” he said.
Jalali expressed hope that Iran could further expand its trade relations with Russia, especially as Russia’s trade volume with Europe has decreased. He added, “We have two major roles in this regard: First, we can become a hub for Russia’s imports and exports by removing obstacles. Second, we can leverage this opportunity within the framework of Iran’s resistance economy policies.”
He also stressed the importance of not overlooking the role of Iran's Central Bank in facilitating these economic ties.
