IP - Iran's president Masoud Pezeshkian says Iran-Russia ties are "strategic, inevitable and mutually beneficial."

Iran Press/Europe: In a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, Masoud Pezeshkian stated: "Since returning from Ashgabat, I have pursued most of our agreements with Russia to finalize and sign the agreements. If any issues arise in this process, I will personally follow up, as I believe the relations between our two countries are strategic, inevitable, and mutually beneficial."

He continued, "We can engage constructively within the BRICS framework. We are grateful for your support in making us a permanent BRICS member. We will continue this process with determination. The discussions at BRICS were highly constructive, and we hope to implement these ideas in our region and countries."

The President underscored the necessity of disrupting US sanctions against the two nations and countering its hegemony by fostering political, economic, cultural, and scientific relations. He expressed hope for the swift signing of the agreements and affirmed his determination to personally oversee and expedite their finalization and signing.

BRICS Offers New Opportunities

In this meeting, the Russian President stated, "Russia actively supported Iran's membership in BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. New opportunities have been created for our two countries to work together on the international stage. We recently had a productive meeting in Ashgabat where we followed up on bilateral and regional issues. Importantly, both countries share a common approach to strengthening relations."

Putin added, "The relationship between our two countries is on an upward trajectory; it is friendly and constructive. We should strengthen our ties through the signing of an agreement. It's crucial that we ensure the continued growth of trade and economic relations. The bilateral commission must be active. We are pursuing the development of rail infrastructure within the framework of the North-South Corridor, the construction of phases two and three of the Bushehr power plant, and a free trade agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union. The agreement of establishing and operating cultural centers has entered into force. The visa waiver has led to a 50% increase in tourism between our two countries in 2023."
