Cairo (IP) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced Iran’s readiness to pave the way for the establishment of a joint D-8 bank during his speech at the 11th Summit of the Developing-8 (D-8) group in Cairo on Thursday.

Iran Press/Africa: Addressing leaders and delegates from member countries, Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of economic collaboration among D-8 nations. Iran is fully prepared to contribute to the groundwork for a joint D-8 bank, he stated, emphasizing the need for deeper collaboration among member states.

Speaking on Thursday at the 11th D-8 Summit held in Cairo, Pezeshkian called for renewed efforts to strengthen ties and expand multilateral cooperation during Egypt's chairmanship of the group.

"I hope Egypt’s leadership will mark a period of enhanced friendship and solidarity among member states, accompanied by concrete steps toward expanding our multilateral cooperation," Pezeshkian said during his address.

Addressing Regional Crises

Turning to the crises in West Asia, Pezeshkian condemned the ongoing aggression in Gaza, southern Lebanon, and Syria by the occupying Israeli regime. He highlighted the humanitarian toll, including the deaths of civilians, the suffering of women and children, and the widespread destruction in these regions.

“For more than 14 months, our region, particularly Gaza, southern Lebanon, and now Syria, has faced relentless attacks from the occupying Israeli regime,” Pezeshkian said. “The brutal killing of civilians and the targeting of vulnerable populations expose new dimensions of its unlawful and destabilizing ambitions.”

He urged Islamic nations to unite against these aggressions. “It is our moral, legal, and humanitarian duty to take decisive, coordinated, and immediate action to prevent further harm to our brothers and sisters in crisis-hit areas.”

A Call for Unity and Action

Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of solidarity among Islamic nations to counter such threats effectively. “Islamic countries must act in harmony to stand against the violations of the Zionist regime,” he declared.

The D-8 group, an organization of eight developing economies including Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey, aims to strengthen economic ties, promote sustainable development, and create opportunities for mutual growth.
