Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, reaffirmed that the Islamic Republic of Iran is seeking neither conflict nor an escalation of tensions in the region but is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any aggression that threatens its vital interests and security.

Iran PressAmerica: Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on Lebanon on Thursday, Iravani emphasized Iran's right to self-defense in accordance with international law.

Iran launched Operation True Promise II on October 1, 2024, against the Israeli regime due to the Israeli regime's violation of Iranian territorial integrity over the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

Last year, as the Israeli regime hit the Iranian consulate section in Damascus, Syria, Iran carried out the True Promise I operation in response to the aggression on Iranian soil.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will undoubtedly exercise its inherent right to self-defense, fully in line with international law, and will inform the Security Council of its legitimate response,” Amir-Saeed Iravani stated.

Highlighting the deteriorating situation in Lebanon, Iravani warned that the country is on the brink of a humanitarian collapse, urging the international community to prevent the situation from worsening. “Humanitarian aid must reach Lebanon without obstruction.

The international community must immediately provide the necessary financial and logistical support to ensure that essential supplies reach the affected populations,” he said.

Addressing the 15-member Security Council, Iravani stressed the urgency of a ceasefire, stating that the credibility of the council was at stake.

“Iran calls for immediate action and a ceasefire. This is not a request, but a necessity,” he asserted, calling for accountability for Israel's actions in Lebanon and Palestine.

“The Security Council must hold the Israeli regime accountable for committing genocidal warfare and crimes against the people of Lebanon and Palestine.”Iravani also urged the council to send a clear message, saying, “The Israeli regime's occupation and aggressions must come to an end.”

He called on Israel to fully comply with UN Resolution 1701 (2006) and emphasized that a just resolution to the crisis requires recognition of Lebanon's sovereignty and independence, an end to Israel's illegal occupation and aggressions, and respect for international law and the UN Charter.

The Zionist regime's army launched a large-scale attack on Gaza and various areas of southern Lebanon on October 7, 2023, which is still going on until this moment and has so far left more than 44,000 people killed.
