(IP) – Managing director of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) announced that the Islamic Republic of Iran has joined 33 international maritime conventions.

Iran PressIran news:  According to Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), 14 of the aforementioned conventions are related to marine conservation, comprising marine environmental protection.  

In the message of the managing director of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization Ali-Akbar Safaei on the occasion of the annual Day of the Seafarer (DotS) on June 25th, it is stated: Iranian seafarers, with their powerful presence in the sea and ocean along with the guidance and navigation of regional and ocean-going cargo ships, play a chief role in supplying food and economic and military security of the country.

The Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization have always insisted on the protection of the marine environment and the prevention of marine pollution by observing rules, the message reads.

Safaei noted that the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization has taken extensive measures to implement the conventions and prevent marine pollution.
