Iran's Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance emphasized that the historical characteristics of Iran and Iraq as the basis for the development of cultural relations between the two countries.

Iran PressWest Asia: Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili met and talked with Iraqi Minister of Culture, Tourism and Heritage, Ahmed Faqak al-Badarani, on the sidelines of the meeting of the Ministers of Culture of Islamic Countries in Qatar.

In this meeting, Iran's Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, while inviting his Iraqi counterpart to visit Iran, said: "The cultural, historical, and common characteristics of the two countries are the basis for the development of bilateral cultural relations."

Iraqi Minister of Culture also expressed his satisfaction with this meeting while emphasizing the development of cultural relations between the two countries and called for cooperation and joint cinematic productions between Iran and Iraq, which was welcomed by the Iranian side.

The two-day conference will discuss the main principles of cultural policy and indicators of sustainable development, mechanisms for developing the "Cultural Capital of the Islamic World" program, and the expansion of joint cultural activities in combating the illegal trafficking of cultural heritage.

The event will also review the nomination document submitted by Azerbaijan to declare the city of Shusha, the cradle of art and culture of Azerbaijan, as the "Cultural Capital of the Islamic World" for 2024. 219
