Tehran (IP)- Deputy Head of the Army Ground Forces for Coordination Brigadier General Ali Jahanshahi said that the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran has taken positive steps to prevent and combat the coronavirus.

Iran PressIran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on the sideline of opening of the specialized exhibition of the 'Surge in Production' and achievements against coronavirus, Ali Jahanshahi referred to the year of "Surge in Production", named by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, saying: "The Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran, along with other organizations and the armed forces, made great efforts to combat against the coronavirus."

The Iranian Deputy Coordinator of the Army Ground Force also pointed to the positive measures that have been taken to curb the coronavirus outbreak in the country, like drills which were conducted in 24 provinces in 111 cities.

"More than 12,000 Army ground and medical personnel, 28 hospitals, and 211 medical centers, and more than 11,000 rehabilitation beds were provided by the Army," Ali Jahanshahi explained.

The official also noted that one of the exhibition halls was dedicated to the Army Forces in the specialized exhibition of the Surge in Production and achievements against coronavirus.

From April 17, the national day of the Army, coincide with the first weeks of the Coronavirus outbreak, Iran's Army through a 'Parade of Service' voiced its support to the nation in all areas. from the first days of the outbreak to the date, the army is engaged in combat against the coronavirus to help people in defense of national health. 

The 'Parade of Service' was conducted across Iran with the slogan ‘Defenders of Homeland and Assistants of Health’.

The aim of the parade is to fight the COVID-19 outbreak which has brought many social, economic, and health challenges to the whole world. 

The global case tally for the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 has climbed to more than 7.7 million. The death toll rose to nearly 426,000, while more than 3, 650,000 have recovered from the disease.

In Iran, 184,955 people have been infected with the coronavirus, 8,730 people have died due to the virus and more than 146,748 have recovered.
