Tehran (IP) - The mayor of Iran's capital city of Tehran said the municipality tries to make economic and cultural use of the city's '0-6 Garrison', turning it to the garden.

Iran Press/Iran news: Today, during a ceremony, one of the barracks in Tehran turned into a place of entertainment and recreation for the citizens and residents of the city.

The ceremony attended by Chief Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army, Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, head of Islamic Republic of Iran's Aviation, Tehran's mayor, Pirouz Hanachi and other distinguished members of the Islamic Council of the city and a group of military and national officials on June the 6th 2020.

The conversion of barracks into cultural and sports centers has been one of the policies of the country's officials and city officials for decades.

"The green space plus a recreational place will be economic and residential complex as well," Mohamad Eslami, Minister of Road and Urban development stated.

He also added investments are underway to be done to develop the place. Eslami said it is a win-win economic circle for all.

Pirouz Hanachi said the garrison has turned into a green space based on legal rules and regulations.

Hanachi added no other new places will be constructed, but only the old buildings are going to be refurbished. 

The mayor reiterated ministries of Road and Urban Development, Defense, Tourism, Cultural Heritage, and Handicrafts, Tehran's municipality all have played a role to turn the military base to a garden.

According to the memorandum of understanding signed between the Tehran Municipality and the Army, it was decided to liberate 70 percent (34 hectares) of the garrison area as public green space and make it available to the Tehrani citizens.
