Sardasht Border Regiment forces

Tabriz (IP) - Three Iranian border guards were martyred by gunmen in the West Azerbaijan border city of Sardasht, in northwestern Iran.

Iran PressIran news: Martyr Seargent Taqi Bahrehvar, commander of the Maraqeh base, Alireza Eslam Doust, and Hadi Abdi soldiers of the Tabriz Border Regiment and Miandoab were martyred during a clash with armed bandits.

Border guards at the Sardasht Border Regiment clashed with armed bandits on Friday morning while controlling and monitoring the border strip in the Gorillake area, 20 km from the city.

The incident happened in the northwestern province of West Azarbaijan close to the border of Iran with Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.

The border guards managed to kill several of the gunmen in the counter-attack.

The area has seen sporadic fighting between Iranian forces and gunmen as well as terrorists linked to the extremist and anti-revolutionary groups.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
