Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi

Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said that Americans have shown they are violators of international law and this dangerous approach will disrupt the international order.

Iran PressIran News: During his press conference via video conference on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said, “We are approaching to the anniversary of the US withdrawal from JCPOA, and you know that the Americans violated this multilateral agreement and also UN Resolution 2231." 

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman said: "The United States has a dark history of non-compliance with international obligations, of which JCPOA is only one. The Americans have shown that they are violators of international law in the world. There is a long list of international agreements that you are all familiar with as a journalist."

Mousavi further stated, “This approach of the United States is a dangerous approach and will disrupt the international order. Even despite the outbreak of the coronavirus, which all governments must support the World Health Organization (WHO), the US regime has threatened to cut off the organization's budget, which is really regrettable."

Foreign Ministry Spokesman went on to say that: “All involved in the foreign policy inside and outside the country continue the diplomacy. Today, President Rouhani attends a video conference on the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Azerbaijan. About 46 officials are attending the meeting to discuss Coronavirus and how to fight it. "

"During this period, FM Zarif had about 22 phone calls with his counterparts and officials from other countries and talked about various issues such as bilateral ties," Mousavi added.

Astana process the only option for the fate of the region and peace

Regarding FM Zarif's visit to Syria and the video conference of the Astana foreign ministers, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said, "The Astana process is a living process and the break that has taken place is due to the outbreak of Coronavirus. All three Astana agreement member states believe that the Astana process is the only option for all countries and those who believe in the fate of the region and peace. In a teleconference between foreign ministers of Astana, they all stressed that the Astana process is still standing.”

Mousavi said that he hopes after the normalization of the health process in the world, Iran would hold a summit in Tehran, noting, “If the current situation continues, the summit may be held as a teleconference, but given the current situation, we may be able to hold the meeting in person.”

Unjustified and illegal imprisonment of Iranian citizens in the US, EU

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said that some Iranian citizens are imprisoned in the United States and European countries for unjustified and illegal reasons.

Mousavi referred to the Foreign Ministry's efforts to secure the release of 'Sirous Asgari', an Iranian professor imprisoned in the United States, adding, "We have taken steps both inside the country and at the Interests Section of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Washington. Legal action was taken and officials were in close contact with US legal and judicial authorities.

“He will be tested again for a Coronavisrus soon, and if his test result is not positive, all necessary measures will be taken for his return to Iran.”

The Spokesman talked about Iranian citizens imprisoned in other countries, adding, "Iranian citizens, whether convicted or not, are on the agenda of Foreign Ministry and we are cooperating and interacting with countries in this regard to either release or sentence them in Iran."

"Some Iranian prisoners have been arrested and imprisoned in the United States and some European countries for unjustified and illegal reasons, which has always been on our agenda. We have always called for their unconditional release," Mousavi, stressed.

US tried to hit Iran's achievements by withdrawal from JCPOA

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman said: JCPOA has had various achievements, and the Americans have tried to strike a blow by their withdrawal, preventing other achievements, including the end of arms embargo. If the interests of the Iranian people are not served, naturally Iran will respond decisively and nothing will be left of JCPOA.”

Regarding some news about the arrest of a number of Afghan citizens on the borders of the two countries in recent days, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said, "We are in close contact with Afghan officials; this has been rejected by the Iranian border guards and is not true, but we are also saddened that a number of Afghan citizens have lost their lives.”

Stating that some efforts are being made to disrupt relations between the two countries in the region, he said, "Iran has started good diplomatic efforts to form a national unity and a reconciliation government in Kabul.

This kind of news is to undermine Iran's efforts. The citizens of Afghanistan have always been and are respected for us, and we recommend that the media and officials of both countries be aware of the conspiracies, and we have stated that we will do our utmost to clarify the incident."

"We are trying to continue economic exchanges with our neighbors and the countries of the region, and to remove obstacles," he said. “The next issue is foreign nationals in Iran and Iranian nationals abroad. We had good cooperation with foreign countries and tried to return the citizens to their countries.”

Iran's complaints on Germany chemical weapons sale to Saddam

Mousavi stated, "The issue of German support for Saddam and the sale of chemical weapons to him against Iran in Iran-Iraq war is clear and obvious, which has been proven. The Germans are involved a lot in Saddam's crimes against the Iranian armed forces, the Iranian people, and the oppressed people of Iraq, especially the Iraqi Kurds.”

“The pursuit continued from the time of the imposed war. Legal action has been taken against the then Iraqi government and its supporters who cooperated with Saddam. We are waiting for the trial of perpetrators and formally apologies of Germany to the people and government of Iran and Iraq,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman said.

US presence in the Persian Gulf a threat for the region

"We don't recognize the presence of Americans, especially its military, in the Persian Gulf, and we see it as a threat to our security and stability in the region," Mousavi said of the escalating tensions between Iran and the United States in the Persian Gulf. “The Americans prevented our armed forces from legally and freely patrolling and we have issued the necessary warnings."

Iran supports the new Iraqi government

"We are closely following the developments in Iraq and are concerned about the resurgence of terrorists, especially ISIS, in Iraq. The Americans are under pressure from the Iraqi people and want to prevent or delay their withdrawal from Iraq by taking such actions and strengthening ISIS. We will declare our support for the Iraqi government and people," Mousavi further said.
