Foreign Ministry deplores Hungary’s decision to expel Iranian student

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman expressed regret over the Hungarian government’s decision of expelling a number of Iranian students from Budapest.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said what the Hungarian authorities call a violation of health protocols has been related to students’ protest to the poor quarantine conditions at the Budapest City Hospital, where they keep coronavirus patients and healthy people together.

Mousavi said the Iranian foreign ministry and the Iranian embassy in Hungary had made every effort to manage the situation and prevent the expulsion of the students.

Mousavi also pointed to the efforts by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif defending the rights of students residing out of Iran, including the Foreign Minister's letter to his Hungarian counterpart and legal pursuing through the Iranian embassy with the cooperation of the students and their families.

Saying that the Iranian students’ right to defend themselves in the Hungarian court has been denied, Mousavi added that Foreign Minister Zarif has urged Hungarian authorities to reconsider the verdict and set conditions for the students to continue their education.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has summoned Hungary’s ambassador in protest at the improper treatment of the Iranian students infected with coronavirus in Budapest on March 17.

In a meeting with the ambassador, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi notified the envoy of the Iranian government’s protest against the unconventional behavior by the Police forces and the medical staff of Szent Laszlo Hospital in the city of Budapest towards the Iranian university students who have tested positive for coronavirus.

Around 2,500 Iranian students are studying in the universities of Hungary.
