Iranian Foreign Ministry

Tehran (IP) - The Swiss ambassador as a guardian of Washington's interests in Tehran was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry for unfounded statements by the US President on holding Iran responsible for the recent attack on the Al-Taji military base in Baghdad.

Iran PressIran news: A spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said on Saturday that Tehran's protest to the Swiss ambassador as a guardian of Washington's interests in Tehran was emphasized.

"Markus Leitner was told that instead of accusing others, the US President Donald Trump must accept that it has had wrong policies for its illegal presence in Iraq and killing Iraqi commanders and soldiers, that have been the main cause of the Iraqi people's hatred of the United States," said Mousavi.

Mousavi added that the Swiss ambassador was warned of the consequences of any unconsidered actions by the US, saying: "Leitner was told that misguided US policies in Iraq caused current tensions and the US officials, especially its President cannot shirk this responsibility with baseless and dangerous statements."

US President Donald Trump blamed the Islamic Republic on the attack on the coalition base in al-Taji, Iraq, in baseless statements last Thursday.

The base was attacked on Wednesday 11 March. It is home to US, British and other international coalition forces known as the anti-ISIS coalition. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack in which two US and one British soldier were killed and four others were wounded.
