Iranian, Japanese FMs hold talks in Germany

Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi held a meeting in Germany on Saturday on the sidelines of Munich Security Conference 2020.

Iran Press/Europe: The Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi conferred on mutual ties as well as regional and international issues on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference 2020, on Saturday 15 February. 

Iran-Japan diplomatic consultations occur regularly and are planned to continue.

Both sides were active in 2019, celebrating the 90th anniversary of diplomatic ties, the Iranian president and Japanese prime minister met and held talks in Tehran, New York, and Tokyo in the past year.

The meeting of Iranian president Hassan Rouhani and Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe included intensive negotiations on bilateral, regional and international issues, as well as discussions on US sanctions and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Japan is a longtime friend and important trading partner of Iran, and Iran has always had close political consultations with Japan.

The Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif on Saturday 15 February held talks with his counterparts from Ukraine, Spain, Oman, Croatia and members of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) on the sidelines of 2020 Munich Security Conference.

Also in his recent diplomatic meetings, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif talked with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also on Friday 14 February about China's fight against the new coronavirus epidemic.

According to Xinhua, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said to his Iranian Counterpart: "You are the first foreign minister who sent sympathies to the Chinese people since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, which fully reflects the profound friendship between the people of the two countries, who support each other and tackle difficulties in a cooperative manner." 

Echoing the Chinese foreign minister, Zarif lauded Chinese President Xi Jinping's outstanding leadership in the fight against the deadly coronavirus epidemic saying the Iranian government and people will continue to provide China with all the necessary support and assistance.
