The 18th  Joint Iran-Oman Economic Cooperation Commission was held at the international permanent fairground in Tehran on Saturday morning.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's Industry, Mine and Trade Minister, Reza Rahmani and Oman's Minister of Industry, Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, were present in the meeting, and the two ministers were accompanied by high-ranking officials.

Iran and Oman are going to sign a host of economic, commercial, sporting, investment, and trade agreements, Iran Press reported.

Speaking at the meeting, Reza Rahmani said: "Oman has a special position in Iran's foreign policy. Based on earlier remarks by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the President, the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to expanding its ties with Islamic countries, in particular, Oman, so Tehran is working hard to expand its economic, cultural, political, and trade ties with Muscat."

The senior official reiterated that in recent years, Iran-Oman relations have improved significantly, but it is not enough, and both sides must try to seize the opportunities to expand relations further.

The Iranian minister added: "From Iran's point of view, Oman has a special position in the region and plays a key role in expanding relations with Arab states, Africa and North Africa. Iran's technical and engineering companies can implement engineering projects in Oman. The two countries can also expand their port cooperation via transit lines."

"Iran's border cities and provinces, such as Bushehr, and Khuzestan which share a common culture and language, can be counted as an opportunity for expansion of relations with Muscat," the minister underscored.

Oman's Minister of Industry, Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy for his part said: "We are well aware of being in critical circumstances. We face a global economic crisis, there are many challenges we face, so we must try to strengthen Iran-Oman relations and increase both countries' transactions volume. I hope both countries try to facilitate bilateral relations and to complete the economic, maritime transit, sporting, and standard commercial agreements." 101/211/207
