A member of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mining, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) said that the failure to ratify the FATF exacerbates economic sanctions against Iran and our country will go under greater pressure.

Iran Press/Iran news: Keyvan Kashefi said, "The FATF is a highly specialized and technical matter and does not need to engage with public opinion and it must be decided at the government and parliament level."

Kashefi added, "Bringing such issues to the public level and creating fear of the FATF among the people is not right at all and is a move contrary to the national interest."

Citing that one of the biggest problems facing the Iranian economy was the US sanctions and the limitation of monetary and banking transactions, the head of the Kermanshah Chamber of Commerce added, "The FATF may be a limitation for us, but this is purely technical, and its advantages and disadvantages must be taken into account."

Kashefi explained, "Because the US withdrawal of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was one-sided and had no UN backing, there is no unity between countries to impose sanctions on Iran, but by not joining the FATF, we welcome more sanctions."

Emphasizing that joining the FATF is the most important way for financial and economic ties with the world, he added, "The main issue for financial matters in the world is the transparency of financial transactions and since we are moving toward this issue in Iran, so there is no reason to not approve the bill."
