Masuleh (IP) - A special ceremony, known as dressing of the flag – 'Alam Bandan' in Persian was held in the village of Masuleh in the north of Iran in Gilan province, on the occasion of Muharram.

Iran Press/Iran news: The Eight-Centuries-Old traditional ritual is being held every year on 6th day of the lunar month of Muharram.

The Arabic and Persian word 'Alam' is translated variously as 'flag'.

Mourners gathered in the local shrine of Imamzadeh 'Aoun Bin Ali' to participate in this ceremony.

Muharram is the first month on the Islamic calendar. During the month, mourners take to the streets and gather in mosques and other religious places to grieve in different rituals the martyrdom of the third Shia Imam, the chief of martyrs, Imam Hossein (peace be upon him). 101/211/104
