Iran Press/ Iran news: The Hague-based International Court of Justice (ICJ) heard the US lawyers’ defense against a lawsuit filed against Washington over violation of the Treaty of Amity through unlawful seizure of $2 billion worth of assets of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI).
According to IRNA, the ICJ said that it will inform both Iran and the US when it is about to issue a ruling on this case. In the meantime, the Iranian delegation, attending the last session of the ICJ, rejected the US envoys’ claims and accusations, citing documents presented to the court. The Iranian delegation described the US envoy's claims as baseless and urged the ICJ to reject the claims.
The Iranian team said the US courts have issued a decree against Iran's CBI to freeze about two billion dollars of its assets, thus causing problem for the bank in its international relations.
The US sanctions against the CBI is against the 1955 Treaty of Amity between the two countries, the Iranian lawyers noted.

At the end of the meeting, Mohsen Mohebi, head of the Iranian delegation, referred to the US accusation against Iran on sponsoring terrorism and noted that Washington made such accusations at the time when Iran's parliament approved a bill on Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT).
Earlier on Wednesday session, Iranian lawyers participating in the high court established to deal with the complaints of governments against each other listed the US' violations of the Treaty of Amity of 1955.
Probing the US violation of the Treaty of Amity through resuming sanctions against Iran is an example of a legal settlement of disputes between the two sides, which resulted in a court ruling in favor of Iran, the Iranian team said.

Shortly after Tehran beat Washington at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Iran is facing off with the US in a new case at the same court.
Recently, the International Court of Justice ordered the United States to lift sanctions on Iran that affect imports of humanitarian goods and products and services linked to the safety of civil aviation.
On May 8, US President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached between Tehran and the world powers in 2015.
Washington has since told countries they must stop buying the OPEC producer's oil from November 4 or face financial consequences.
Under the JCPOA, Iran undertook to put limits on its' nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.
Donald Trump’s decision to scrap the nuclear deal was sharply criticised by other signatories of the deal, who have pledged to uphold their side of the agreement.
