Showing great performance during their last 3 games, the Iranian referee team were selected by FIFA to officiate England-Belgium match in 2018 World Cup.

Iranian referee Alireza Faghani together with linesmen Reza Sokhandan and Mohammad Mansouri will officiate third-place playoff match of the 2018 World Cup between England and Belgium.

The match will be held on Saturday at the Saint Petersburg Stadium.

Faghani officiated Germany-Mexico and Serbia-Brazil matches in the group stage of the competition.

Vastly experienced Iranian referee  Alireza Faghani has taken charge of a number of high-profile AFC finals and is one of 36 officials given the nod to officiate in Russia, The Sun newspaper wrote in an article recently.

In his career the Iranian has been in charge for the finals of the 2014 AFC Champions League, 2015 AFC Asian Cup, 2015 Club World Cup and the 2016 Olympics.

The Iranian referee also took charge of Argentine-France in the quarterfinals and proved his expertise in the field.

Faghani has not used VAR (video assistant referee) during the three matches.
