Tehran (IP)- Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Belgian counterpart Hadja Lahbib discussed the latest regional developments and bilateral ties in a phone conversation.

In the phone talk, Amir-Abdollahian touched upon the good experiences of both countries in helping settle problems, including in the consular domain, describing as significant the continuation of consultations at different levels in a bid to enhance mutual relations further.

The top Iranian diplomat touched upon Belgium’s rotating presidency of the European Union, saying the union is expected to help promote regional and international peace and stability.

Amir-Abdollahian referred to Belgium’s stances in support of Palestine, saying, “The establishment of a lasting ceasefire in Palestine to put a complete halt to the Zionist regime’s genocide and war crimes in Gaza and the West Bank, would be the only effective and safe way to put in place peace in West Asia, namely in the maritime domain.”

The Belgian foreign minister, in turn, referred to her country’s presidency of the European Union, saying Belgium has made a lot of efforts, and will continue to do so, to build a consensus among EU countries to put an end to hostilities, help people in Gaza gain access to food and secure the freedom of captives.

She further condemned the attack on the Iranian diplomatic site in Damascus and highlighted the Islamic Republic of Iran’s important role in the region, calling for the continuation of efforts to stem the spread of tensions. 219
