Iran Press/ Europe: Attending the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council meeting in London, Ali Akbar Safaei said in an interview on Monday, November 18, 2024: "The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) is a purely commercial and business entity that transports commercial goods not only for Iran but also for other countries. It is one of the largest shipping companies in West Asia."
Referring to the scope of Iran's shipping company's commercial activities, he added, "All efforts of this company in the Caspian Sea are aimed at importing essential goods into Iran; therefore, the accusation made by the European Union is completely unfounded."
Earlier today, the European Union announced sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines and its Managing Director, alleging Iran's involvement in the Ukraine conflict by supplying ballistic missiles to Russia. The EU's statement came just hours ago, citing these claims as the basis for their decision.
