In a press briefing on Tueseday, the Deputy of Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, outlined major initiatives in artificial intelligence (AI) and technology.

Iran PressIran news:   Hossein Afshin announced plans to launch Iran’s first GPU-based data center by early 1404, along with the development of a national AI operating system. A prototype of the operating system, designed to host AI algorithms locally, is expected in six months.

Afshin revealed that AI assistants are being developed to provide real-time data and expert analysis for the president, vice presidents, and ministers. These projects are being finalized in collaboration with universities.

He highlighted Iran’s strengths in human resources while stressing the need to improve data collection and management, as well as to establish local chip production through the Sahand National Project.

Iran’s domestic automotive industry faces additional challenges. Manufacturers rely on outdated platforms, modifying designs to produce new models rather than investing in modern platforms. For instance, the Tara vehicle is built on the foundation of an older car platform. Limited innovation and long queues for existing vehicles reduce incentives for manufacturers to modernize.

On electric vehicle technology, Afshin admitted that the Tesla reverse-engineering project has stalled and that developing a full electric vehicle platform requires substantial investment. He criticized the domestic automotive industry for relying on outdated platforms and slow innovation.

These initiatives mark a significant step forward in Iran’s efforts to modernize its technology and AI capabilities.
