Iran Press/Europe: According to reports from IRNA, the upcoming negotiations are scheduled for Monday, January 13, 2025, in Geneva. Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, stated that the discussions aim to review issues and define frameworks, emphasizing that it is too early to predict their outcome.
The last round of talks between Iran and the E3 took place on November 30, 2024, also in Geneva. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi described those meetings as a "brainstorming session," focusing on bilateral developments, regional issues, Iran’s nuclear program, and sanctions relief. Both sides committed to continuing diplomacy despite significant challenges.
In a statement following the prior session, Gharibabadi reiterated Iran’s commitment to pursuing national interests through dialogue and engagement. He stated, “We remain resolute in defending the rights of our people, and dialogue remains our preferred path.”
E3 diplomats, in turn, expressed readiness to persist with diplomatic efforts via a message shared on the social media platform X. This mutual willingness to engage has fueled optimism among observers who see the upcoming talks as a potential step forward in reviving the JCPOA.
Experts note that while significant disagreements remain, the continuation of negotiations reflects a shared desire to reduce tensions. Iran has reiterated its readiness to participate in nuclear discussions "based on mutual respect and shared interests."
In an interview with Chinese media, Araghchi recently reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to constructive talks without delay, emphasizing that the JCPOA’s original formula—building trust in Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions—remains the foundation for negotiations.
As the Geneva talks approach, hopes are cautiously rising for progress in the ongoing diplomatic efforts to restore the nuclear accord.
