In a move to deepen cultural relations and boost bilateral tourism, Iran and Uzbekistan are set to establish a technical tourism committee in the near future.

Iran PressIran News:  According to the Public Relations and Information Department, Fariduddin Nasriov, Uzbekistan's ambassador to Tehran, met with Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri, Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. The meeting, held at the minister’s office, focused on enhancing cooperation in tourism, cultural heritage, and handicrafts.

Salehi Amiri expressed hope that this meeting would pave the way for stronger bilateral ties. Highlighting the Iranian president’s emphasis on expanding international relations, he noted that the collaboration's success depends heavily on the commitment of embassies and ambassadors.

The minister referenced his recent meeting with Aziz Abdukhakimov, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, during which the two sides agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding for joint initiatives. He emphasized the importance of the upcoming technical tourism committee in increasing tourist exchanges and fostering deeper cultural connections.

Salehi Amiri outlined several steps to enhance tourism cooperation, including increasing the number of flights, engaging with Uzbekistan’s airlines, and linking travel agencies from both countries. He stressed the significance of these efforts in boosting mutual tourism.

The minister also highlighted six joint UNESCO intangible cultural heritage registrations shared between Iran and Uzbekistan, including Nowruz, the rubab musical instrument, miniature art, and silk weaving. He proposed joint cultural festivals as a way to promote shared heritage and strengthen ties, which he believes could also lead to political advancements.

Further points discussed included collaboration in archaeological excavation and restoration, medical tourism, hosting joint handicraft exhibitions, and exchanging expertise among craftsmen.

Ambassador Nasriov reiterated Uzbekistan’s interest in deepening relations with Iran. He expressed readiness to facilitate Iranian tourists’ entry, support the formation of the technical tourism committee, and collaborate with Iranian travel agencies and airlines to enhance connectivity.
