Iran Press/Africa: During their meeting, Masoud Pezeshkian and Shehbaz Sharif expressed optimism that the decisions made at the D-8 Summit would foster increased cooperation among member countries across various sectors. They reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening the brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran in all areas of mutual interest, with a focus on bilateral trade, economic development, energy, security, and regional connectivity. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of tapping into the extensive potential for bilateral trade and economic collaboration by exploring new avenues within the existing institutional framework between the two nations. He also highlighted the need to further develop border markets, noting that some have already been inaugurated, with ongoing work on others, to enhance the development of border regions and improve the livelihoods of their inhabitants.
The President and Prime Minister from the two brotherly nations highlighted the mutual support provided on various issues and reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining close coordination on all regional and global matters of significance. Expressing deep concern over the genocide of innocent Palestinians by Israel, they agreed to strongly advocate for the oppressed Palestinians. The Prime Minister of Pakistan reiterated the country’s unwavering solidarity with the people of Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, promising to continue supporting their cause.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also conveyed his congratulatory message to Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei during the meeting, extending his felicitations on Iran's recent membership in BRICS. Additionally, he sought Iran's support for Pakistan's bid to join the BRICS group.
