Geneva (IP) - Iran's representative to the United Nations in Geneva, expressed strong protest against the inhumane actions and policies of the Zionist regime, especially the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, by sending three separate letters to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial or arbitrary executions, and the Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories.

Iran Press/EuropeAli Bahraini, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations in Geneva, sent three separate letters to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial or arbitrary executions, Morris Tidball-Binz, and Francesca Albanese, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights, in the Palestinian territories, strongly protested against the inhumane actions and policies of the Zionist regime, especially the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

In his letters, Bahraini clearly stated that from the perspective of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hamas is a libertarian organization that fights for the freedom and independence of Palestine, and from this point of view, the assassination of Hamas leaders is done to destroy the spirit of the struggle of the Palestinian people to end the occupation and achieve the right to self-determination.

He emphasized that by removing the Palestinian leaders, Israel seeks to destroy the Palestinian political identity and the inherent right of the Palestinian people to have an independent state.

The Iranian ambassador in Geneva explained that according to Article 2.1 of the international convention to prevent the financing of terrorism, the institutions of the Zionist regime must be identified as terrorists. Based on this, the actions carried out by the Israeli regime against civilians and Palestinian areas are a clear example of terrorism.

Haniyeh's assassination is a gross violation of international law

Bahraini also referred to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which recognizes the right of Palestinians to self-determination, and described any action that violates this right as illegal.

Iran's ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva strongly criticized the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, calling this act a gross violation of international law, and demanded its firm condemnation.

This senior Iranian diplomat also asked the UN officials to condemn this assassination decisively and clearly and to document it in their future reports.

He also emphasized the need for more efforts to achieve justice for the Palestinian people and to hold the Israeli regime accountable for its crimes.204
