Baghdad(IP)- The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a meeting with the Chief of the General Staff of the Iraqi Armed Forces, emphasized that holding a joint exercise on the borders of Iran and Iraq will ensure stable security.

Iran PressWest Asia:  Major General Mohammad Bagheri, the Chief of the Staff of the Armed Forces, today (Sunday) on his first official visit to Iraq, met with Lieutenant General Abdel Emir Rashid Yarallah, the Chief of the Staff of the Armed Forces of Iraq, referring to the many commonalities and good relations between the two nations of Iran and Iraq said: "There is good stability and security in Iraq and this country is moving on the path of growth and development."

The Chief of the Staff of Iran's Armed Forces emphasized that holding a joint exercise on the borders of Iran and Iraq will ensure stable security on the borders, and said: "The common borders of the two countries are an opportunity to increase convergence and benefit both nations from mutual capacities."

 According to Iran press news agency, "Major General Mohammad Bagheri" called the war with ISIL a golden chapter in the history of the two countries and added: "The martyrs Lt Gen Hajj Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis are a precious heritage for the people of the two countries."

The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces pointed out that the most extensive and effective sectors are related to educational cooperation, and stated: "Two countries have good and valuable experiences in the war against terrorism and can share their experiences with a suitable design."

While expressing gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran for its sincere cooperation in the fight against ISIS and the memory of Martyr Soleimani, the Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army also voiced the full readiness of the Iraqi Armed Forces to develop military, defense, training exchanges and joint exercises and exchange experiences.

Iran's top military Cmdr. Discusses Development of Military Relations with Iraqi Def. Minister

Major General Mohammad Bagheri met with Iraqi Defense Minister Thabet Mohammad Saeed AL-Abbasi. They both discussed the development of military relations between the two neighboring countries on Sunday.

Defense Minister Thabit Mohammad AL-Abbasi said, "During the meeting, which was attended by senior commanders and officers in the Ministry of Defense, some topics of common interest between Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran were discussed, especially those related to the development of military relations between Baghdad and Tehran."

Iran's Bagheri said: We believe that the cooperation between the armed forces of Iran and Iraq has not yet reached an acceptable level despite the many capacities, and both countries can benefit from the activation of these capacities.

Major General Bagheri emphasized the significance of the experiences gained by the Islamic Republic of Armed Forces in the areas of tactics, strategy, and technology. He also declared the readiness of the Iranian Armed Forces to conduct a bilateral or multilateral maritime rescue exercise in the Persian Gulf.

Iranian Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri Meets with Iraq's Al-Shammari

The Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, met with Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari on Sunday in Baghdad.

Iranian top commander Bagheri stressed that Tehran is interested in supporting the security and stability of Iraq and working to control the common international borders.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqheri arrived in Baghdad on Sunday at the head of a high-ranking military delegation and the official invitation of his Iraqi counterpart.

After arriving in Baghdad, Iran's Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces was welcomed by Major General Hamid Mohammad Gamar, deputy Iraqi army general staff, and Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Baghdad.

Meeting with high-ranking political and defense officials and negotiating bilateral and regional cooperation, as well as paying a visit to the military centers of Iraq, will be among the important plans of the Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces during his trip to Iraq.

Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari stressed "the importance of working at the Joint Coordination Center to strengthen the security of Iraq and Iran especially in securing the Iraqi-Iranian borders, combating drugs and Psychotropic Substances, and intensifying work in the intelligence field", noting that "the ministry is keen to strengthen the bonds of bilateral relations."
