Iran Press/ West Asia: In a phone call, Bahrain's Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani congratulated Abbas Araghchi on his appointment as Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs and wished him success in his new role.
Highlighting the significance of bilateral relations with Iran, Al Zayani expressed hope that this new period would foster joint political dialogues between Tehran and Manama.
Araghchi thanked his Bahraini counterpart for his call and congratulations, as well as for attending the inauguration ceremony of President Masoud Pezeshkian.
He described the development of relations with neighboring countries as part of Iran's neighborhood policy.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continuing dialogues and exchanging views based on the agreements previously established.
The relationship between Iran and Bahrain has been historically strained, particularly since 2016 when Bahrain severed diplomatic ties with Iran following attacks on Saudi diplomatic missions in Tehran.
Despite these tensions, recent developments indicate a potential thaw in relations. Bahrain has expressed interest in restoring ties with Iran, especially after the normalization of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, which was brokered by China earlier this year.
