Iran Press/ Iran News: Behrouz Aqaei said on Saturday that the Kashan ship carrying 355 containers weighing approximately 8,875 tons of transit wheat shipped from India to Afghanistan entered Shahid Beheshti port in Chabahar and began evacuating immediately after unloading.
Highlighting that this is the sixth part of the 75,000-ton transit shipment of humanitarian aid of the Indian government to Afghanistan through Chabahar port, Aqaei added, "Since the beginning of this Iranian year (starting on March 21), 38,500 tons of wheat donated by India in the form of five shipments have entered through this strategic port, and transported to Afghanistan via the Milk-Zaranj border."
Referring to the arrival of other shipments of Indian humanitarian aid to Afghanistan through the Gateway to the Nations organization in the coming months, the director of Sistan and Baluchestan Department of Ports and Maritime Organization stated: "Meanwhile we are witnessing Shahid Beheshti port's export and import booming, while the economies of all countries of the world have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic."
Stressing Chabahar is believed to be the closest transit route into Afghanistan and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), he said that considering the volume of India's trade with Afghanistan and the need of these two countries for maritime transportation, this strategic port is the most suitable option for both parties. 207/216
