Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan has been arrested by the military as he appeared in court in Islamabad to face charges in a corruption case.

Iran PressAsia: Fawad Chaudhry, a senior official with Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, said the 72-year-old was arrested on Tuesday on the premises of the court by agents from the National Accountability Bureau, the country’s anti-corruption body.

A video showed Khan being arrested under heavy security.

Khan was ousted as prime minister in a no-confidence vote in April last year. He believed that his ousting was illegal and a Western conspiracy and campaigned against the government of his successor, Shehbaz Sharif, demanding early elections.
