Iran Press/ Asia: The Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani is visiting Baku, the capital of the Azerbaijan Republic to pursue the implementation of the agreements reached between the two countries as well as to talk about the latest political, security, and economic developments in the region and the world.
Shamkhani, in a meeting with Secretary of Security Council of Azerbaijan Ramil Usubov, described continuous support for peace and stability in the region as one of the main strategies of the Islamic Republic of Iran. "Imported security does not meet lasting interests of the regional states," he stated.
Referring to close civilizational, historical, religious, and cultural commonalities between the two countries, he stressed developing relations with Azerbaijan is an important part of Iran’s foreign policy.
"Arrogant powers and ill-wishers of the two nations should not be allowed to harm the fraternal relations between the two countries," Shamkhani added.
Shamkhani further pointed to the continuation of the Zionist regime’s wickedness, which is aimed at infiltrating the security mechanisms of the region, and said that the Zionist regime, as the main center of evil-doing and insecurity in the region, was facing political crises and internal economic and social challenges and was trying to reduce internal pressures by transferring internal crises to the region.
"Iran is against any action that leads to insecurity and change in the geopolitics of the region," Shamkhani stressed.
He noted that all-out political, economic, cultural, security and defense cooperation between Tehran and Baku was in the interest of the two counties.
For his part, Usubov termed lasting security and stability in the region as one of the important priorities of Iran and Azerbaijan.
He expressed hope that Shamkhani's visit to be a turning point in bilateral relations and solve some issues in this regard.
Usubov emphasized the importance of efforts to fight terrorism, organized crime, and drug trafficking. "The common borders of Iran and Azerbaijan should always be safe and become a symbol of friendship between the two countries," he said.
"Past experiences show that the only way to create sustainable security is close cooperation between the regional states," he concluded.
