ICJ confirms US violation of intl law

The Director-General of International Legal Affairs for Iran's Foreign Ministry said the interim injunction granted by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against the White House illegal sanctions confirms the US violation of international law.

Iran Press/ Iran News: Abbas Bagherpour who attended a UN General Assembly meeting on Wednesday, which addressed the topic of ICJ's report, stressed the role of the court as the judiciary pillar of the UN in peacefully solving disputes.

Pointing out to the US cruel sanctions against Iran, Bagherpour said that it is the first time in the history of the UN, sovereign states are threatened and punished not for violation of UN Security Council's resolutions, but due to their adherence to the council's 2231 resolution.

The Iranian legal official noted that the Court's interim injunction obligated the US to stop its destructive act in some areas, based on its commitments to the ICJ, pointing to a lawsuit Tehran has filed against US arrogant policies for violating international law and submitted to ICJ.

Also addressing the US illegal confiscation of Iran's assets in an allegedly judicial process, Abbas Bagherpour referred to a legal lawsuit Iran submitted to the ICJ and asserted that despite the primary protests of the US to the petition, the Court has established its jurisdiction to hear the case which is currently under investigation.
