Iran Press/ Asia: Thousands of black-clad protesters from all walks of life thronged the streets of Hong Kong on Sunday in a sign of broad support for anti-government demonstrations that have roiled the Chinese-ruled city for six months.
The protesters rallied with chants of, 'Fight for freedom, stand with Hong Kong'; anti-government activists, young and old, marched from Victoria Park in the bustling shopping district of Causeway Bay to Chater Road near the heart of the financial district.
For the first time since August, police have allowed a rally by the 'Civil Human Rights Front', one of the territory's largest pro-democracy groups.
Police said 11 people were arrested ahead of the rally in raids and that a handgun was seized.
The protests started in June over a controversial extradition bill, and have now evolved into broader anti-government demonstrations.
Earlier, China's National People's Congress urged the US to terminate its interventions in Hong Kong and China's affairs.
Hong Kong has been governed under a “one-country, two-system” model since the city -a former British colony- was returned to China in 1997.
