Gaza (IP) – A senior leader of Hamas has called for the establishment of a national consensus government in Gaza as indirect talks between Hamas and the Israeli regime resumed in Qatar. The discussions aim to broker a ceasefire and address pressing issues in the blockaded territory.

Iran Press/West Asia: Osama Hamdan, Hamas’s representative in Lebanon and a member of the movement’s political bureau, made the remarks on Tuesday. Speaking against the backdrop of ongoing negotiations in Doha, Hamdan emphasized the need for unified Palestinian leadership during a critical transitional period.

"We want a national consensus government to be the gateway to managing Palestinian affairs in this transitional phase until the Palestinian people decide to choose their leadership," Hamdan stated.

He further criticized past negotiations with the Israeli regime, asserting, “The experience of negotiating with Israel has proven that the only solution to achieve the rights of our people is to engage with the enemy and force it to retreat."

Hamdan said the regime is perpetuating violence and deprivation in Gaza, reiterating Hamas’s commitment to its resistance strategy.

"The message of the resistance is that it will continue on the same path and nothing will weaken its resolve," he said. "Our clear position in the negotiations is a ceasefire, the withdrawal of the occupation, the exchange of prisoners, and the reconstruction of Gaza without Israeli conditions."

The latest round of indirect talks in Qatar seeks to address a lasting ceasefire, prisoner exchanges, and Gaza’s reconstruction.
