Tehran (IP) - Iranian presidential candidate Amir-Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi dropped out of the upcoming presidential race.

Iran PressIran news: Amir-Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi, former parliamentarian and vice president and the current head of the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, announced his withdrawal from the contest in a statement on Wednesday.

"To maintain the unity of the forces of the revolution I withdraw from the election," Ghazizadeh wrote on his X account.

"I hope my other three brothers will also agree in the remaining time so that the front of the revolution will be strengthened," he added.

"I am grateful to the honorable nation of Iran, the honorable Guardian Council, the Ministry of Interior, and all the members of my election headquarters. May the way of dear martyr Raeisi continue in the best way," he said.

The candidates remaining in the race are Saeed Jalili, a former lead nuclear negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iranian Parliament speaker, Mostafa Pourmohammadi, former interior minister, Masoud Pezeshkian, former health minister, and Alireza Zakani, mayor of Tehran.
