Tehran (IP) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has highlighted the strategic importance of the relationship between Iran and Syria, describing their roles in West Asia as "unique." He emphasized that no unity or agreement in the region surpasses the significance of their bond.

Iran Press/Iran news: This statement came during Ghalibaf’s meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Bassam Sabbagh on Thursday morning (November 21), where the two officials discussed bilateral ties and regional developments.

Syria: The Vanguard of Resistance

Ghalibaf underscored Syria's pivotal position as the "frontline of the resistance axis," recalling his first visit to Syria during the presidency of Hafez al-Assad. "In those discussions, we stressed that the roles of Syria and Iran in the region are unparalleled. Our relationship is now stronger than ever, and this unity is crucial to regional stability. However, this does not mean we are neglecting ties with other nations," he said.

Reflecting on the period when Arab nations severed ties with Syria, Ghalibaf expressed regret. "We were deeply saddened by those ruptures and worked tirelessly to restore those relationships. When relations were re-established, we celebrated the progress," he noted.

Ghalibaf also reaffirmed Iran’s unwavering support for Syria during critical times, particularly during the fight against ISIS. "We stood by Syria during the dark days of the ISIS invasion, and we continue to stand alongside Syria and Lebanon today. Together, we will overcome these challenges, and with God's will, victory is assured," he said.
