Tehran (IP) - Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned Germany's chargé d'affaires, Hans Peter Jugel, in Tehran to express strong objections to Berlin’s recent decision to limit consular services for Iranian citizens residing in Germany.

Iran Press/Iran News: The development follows Tehran’s previous summoning of the German ambassador after Germany’s interference concerning the execution of an Iranian fugitive. In response, Germany recalled its ambassador from Tehran and closed Iranian consulates in the country.

During the meeting, Iran’s Foreign Ministry’s Head of West Europe Affairs conveyed Iran’s official protest, condemning Germany’s decision as an unwarranted and unjustifiable act. They underscored that the main role of Iranian consulates in Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich is to provide essential consular services to Iranians in Germany and protect their interests in the host country. Closing these centers, they said, effectively restricts the rights of Iranian citizens to access vital services, imposing unnecessary burdens on the Iranian community and severing a long-standing link between the people of both nations.

The Iranian official described Germany’s approach as counterproductive and said German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock’s recent statement was "crude, meddling, unprofessional, and lacking diplomatic decorum." The Ministry warned that Germany’s stance is a serious miscalculation with inevitable consequences for which it will bear responsibility.

Finally, Iran emphasized the importance of respect for international law principles, such as non-interference in domestic affairs and recognition of each nation’s judicial authority. The Ministry condemned Germany’s disregard for these standards and any actions that could be construed as support for terrorism under the guise of protecting citizens.
