Tbilisi (IP) - Following the Georgian Dream party's victory in parliamentary elections, opposition supporters — with backing from the West, including the United States — took to the streets to protest the results.

Iran Press/Asia: Georgia's Central Election Commission announced the following results for the Oct. 26, 2024, parliamentary elections: Georgian Dream party, 53.92%; Coalition for Change, 11.03%; Unity-National Movement party, 10.16%; Strong Georgia, 8.81%; and Gakharia for Georgia, 7.77%.

Opponents of Georgia joining the European Union won the country's parliamentary elections. However, supporters of EU membership, backed by European nations and the United States, are protesting the outcome. On Monday night, they gathered in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi.

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, who leans West, joined the protesters gathered outside Parliament Monday night, seemingly influenced by the European Union and US stance on the parliamentary election results.
