Protesters request resignation of Serbian President

Thousands of Serbian protesters in front of the parliament building on the fifth night of their protests demanded the resignation of their country's president.

Iran Press/Europe: Violent demonstrations in the streets of Belgrade began on Tuesday in protest of tightening quarantine-restrictions, also protests against the government's policies have continued, with protesters calling for the resignation of Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i?.

In addition to Belgrade, the capital, protests were held in the towns of Novi Sad, Zrenjanin, ?a?ak and Nis.

Last Friday, security forces clashed with protesters in the Serbian capital, injuring 14 police officers and arresting 71 others.

Critics say the government's decision to authorize football matches, religious ceremonies, parties and private events in May and to hold parliamentary elections on June 21 has increased the number of coronavirus cases in Serbia.

Aleksandar Vu?i? while denying all allegations about his government's role in accelerating the coronavirus outbreak in Serbia, described the protests in the country as "stupid".

Serbia, with a population of seven million, has so far recorded 18,073 cases of coronavirus and 382 deaths related to the virus.
