Iran and Oman FMs discussed latest regional developments and issues of mutual interest

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Omani counterpart Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah held talks on issues of mutual interest in Muscat on Friday.

Iran Press/Middle East:  Zarif who was on his Indian tour to attend Raisina Dialogue 2020, traveled to Oman on his Canadian counterpart's request to review issues related to recent air incident in Tehran that killed some Canadian and Iranian nationals.

Meeting between Zarif and Yusuf bin Alawi was the first meeting between Iranian and Omani top diplomats after the Late Sultan of Oman Qaboos bin Said Al Said passed away late Friday 10 January and Haitham bin Tariq bin Taimur Al Saeed has been declared as the country's new Sultan.

At the time, The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who has traveled to Muscat on behalf of the Iranian government to attend the commemoration ceremony of the late Sultan Qaboos, met with the new Omani Sultan, Haitham bin Tariq.

Zarif offered his condolences over the death of late Sultan Qaboos, congratulated sultan Haitham bin Tariq for his new role and expressed the Islamic Republic's readiness to develop and deepen the friendly and long-standing relations between the two countries.
