A senior Iranian lawmaker said that the measure by US President Donald Trump against the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) is in retaliation to the ISIS defeats in Iraq and Syria.

Iran Press/Middle East: Head of Iran's parliamentary delegation, Alaeddin Boroujerdi made the remarks while delivering a speech at a meeting of Iran's Neighbors' Inter-Parliamentary Assemblies headed by Speaker of the Iraqi parliament Mohammed al-Halbousi and attended by the speakers of the parliaments of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Kuwait, Syria and Jordan.

Boroujerdi, who attended the Baghdad meeting on behalf of Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, extended his congratulations to the Iraqi parliament on the occasion of Iraq's victory over the ISIS and helping the country to step into the construction phase, Iran Press reported.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is pleased with the successes of the Iraqi government and nation while extending its congratulations on that occasion, he added.

Boroujerdi added that Iran has supported the Iraqi government and people and responded to request of the Iraqi government for help in the fight against Takfiri terrorists by helping the country from the early hours of the occupation of the city of Mosul.

He said the Islamic Republic of Iran's principled view and approach is to support the independence, territorial integrity, stability and security of Iraq, and will continue to play a supportive role in the new phase and in the era of reconstruction and development.105/207
