Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif headed to the holy city of Karbala in southern Iraq on Wednesday, to attend the 'Iran-Iraq business forum'.

Iran Press/Middle East: Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif along with other senior Iranian and Iraqi officials, attended the joint business forum in holy city of Karbala on Wednesday morning.

In this meeting, Zarif and his accompanying high-ranking delegation, including ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi, as well as governor of Karbala province, Aqil Al-Turaihi participated, Iran Press reported.

Dozens of representatives and managers from top Iranian companies, and industrialists, and top Iraqi businessmen and industrialists, mostly from central and southern provinces of Iraq, came together to discuss ways of boost trade and economic ties between Tehran and Baghdad, and between Iranian and Iraqi businesses.

Speaking at the forum, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mirmasoud Hosseinian, noted the holding of an economic session last year with participation from over 250 Iranian and Iraqi industrialists and business people, as well as a specialized exhibition organized by Iran in Karbala as two successful cases of boosting trade cooperation between the two sides.

The governor of Karbala, for his part, said the reason for Zarif’s presence and his efforts to organize the business forum in Karbala is the positive prospect for cooperation between the two countries in various fields, particularity in trade, agriculture and industries.

Zarif heading a high-ranking political and economic delegation in an official visit to Iraq arrived in Baghdad on January 13 and after meeting with Baghdad official including Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi, President Barham Salih and Speaker of the Council of Representatives of Iraq Mohamed al-Halbousi, Head of the National Wisdom Movement of Iraq Ammar Hakim, Iraqi lawmaker Hadi al-Amiri, and the heads as well as members of Iraqi religious, political, cultural, ethical, and social bodies, traveled to Iraqi Kurdistan region for meetings with officials of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.

On Tuesday Iranian foreign minister visited Iraqi Kurdistan major city of Irbil and Sulaymaniya and met with Iraqi Kurdish leaders.

In Irbil Zarif attended gathering of business people from both Iran and the Kurdistan region on Tuesday and praised the brotherly and historical relations between the two sides and called for further promotion of cooperation. 105/ 211 /205
