Iran power of deterrence consolidated: Defense Minister

Tehran(IP) - Iran's defense minister said that the country's power of deterrence, which the enemies sought to challenge, has once again been consolidated and maintained.

Iran PressIran News: Referring to the fact that last year Iran's Ministry of Defense efforts were aimed at maintaining and consolidating the hard power approach, Brigadier General Amir Hatami added that the Iranian Defense Ministry gave a decisive response to the enemies.

Furthermore, Iran's Minister of Defense announced the unveiling of some important achievements regarding the maritime field in the upcoming year and said: "Dena destroyer and a minesweeper will be delivered to the Iranian Navy."

Brigadier General Hatami also noted: The martyrdom of Lieutenant  General Qassem Soleimani, the late commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps and the Second-in-Command of Iraq' Popular Military Force (PMF) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and his companions, hurt every Iranian, though, in terms of operation, it had no value whatsoever.

"The enemies intended to challenge the power of the Islamic Republic of Iran, however thanks to the tact of Iran's Commander-in-Chief, the US military base in Iraq was destroyed and the enemies faced Iran's crushing response.", Hatami said.

Iran's Defense Minister stressed that decision to launch a missile attack on Ain al-Asad base as a strategic US base on Iraqi soil restored Iran's deterrent power.

General Soleimani, the commander of Quds Forces of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) and Al-Mohandis were targetted at Baghdad airport by the US forces early Friday morning, January 3, 2020.

Lieutenant General Soleimani was assassinated at the order of the US President Donald Trump in an airstrike by the Pentagon in Baghdad on Friday along with the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) second-in-commandleader, Al-Muhandis and eight others in their entourage.
