Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif casts vote in legislative election

Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his wife attended a polling booth at Jamaran Hosseinia in north Tehran, casting their ballot in the eleventh parliamentary elections.

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking to press and journalists after casting his vote, Zarif said the turnout of voters and their presence at the ballot box is a huge vote of confidence in the Islamic Republic, a vote of confidence in the Iranian government, and supports Iran's foreign policy.

Mohammad Reza Aref, the head of the Majlis Hope faction, also cast his vote in the eleventh parliamentary election at the Jamaran Hosseinia. 

Polling stations in 207 constituencies across Iran opened at 8:00 am local time. After the polls close, counting will begin straight away. 

Nearly 58 million people are eligible to vote on preselected lists of candidates for Iran's 11th parliament.

The Iranian Parliament, officially known as the Islamic Consultative Assembly, is a 290-seat legislative body with 207 constituencies. Its members are elected every four years, and former and current members can be re-elected.

On the other hand, the Assembly of Experts of the Leadership is a deliberative body of 88 theologians tasked with choosing the Leader of the Islamic Revolution. Members of the assembly are elected every eight years.
