Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi

Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman condemned the recent remarks by NATO Secretary-General in justifying the US assassination of Lieutenant-General Qasem Soleimani, saying NATO has achieved in recent years nothing but destruction, war, and insecurity for the people of the region and the world.

Iran Press/Iran news: Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said on Wednesday night that the NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg's remarks are against international law.

Mousavi added that justifying the terrorist act of the US government, as the biggest member of NATO, in the assassination of Soleimani, a high-ranking official invited by Iraq’s legal government, is making fun of the world's public opinion.

The Spokesman further noted that justifying the US government's terrorist act is equivalent to closing eyes to the commander's role in the determining fight against terrorists, the destruction of ISIS and warding off the threats to the region and beyond borders of Europe.

He expressed regret that NATO has been turned into an instrument for justifying US measures and certain European allies in achieving their evil political goals in the region.

Seyyed Abbas Mousavi concluded Iran believes that the security will return to the region when terrorist acts of trans-regional forces that some of which have been operating under NATO come to an end and the task of establishing security in the region are assigned to the regional countries.

Lieutenant-General Qasem Soleimani, who had traveled to Iraq at the official invitation of the Iraqi government, was martyred in a terrorist attack -- a US drone strike, in the early hours of Friday morning 3 January 2020.
