Iran expresses condolences for loss of lives in Ukrainian Airlines crash

Tehran (IP) - Foreign Ministry spokesman expressed condolences on the death of Iranian and foreign passengers on board of the Ukrainian Boeing 737 which crashed on Wednesday morning in southern Tehran.

Iran Press/Iran news: Seyyed Abbas Mousavi, in his message, expressed his condolences and sympathies over the tragic incident which claimed the lives of so many Iranian and Ukrainian citizens.

Some 147 passengers on board of the crashed Boeing 737 plane were Iranians and 32 passengers were foreigners.

All 179 passengers lost their lives when a Ukrainian plane Boeing 737 crashed in southern Tehran Wednesday morning after its engine caught fire.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadim Prystaiko said there were 11 Ukrainians, 10 Swedish nationals, four Afghans, three Germans and three British nationals who were killed in the Ukrainian passenger plane crash near Tehran.

Airline officials said most of the passengers were transiting through Kiev to other destinations.

The Ukrainian nationals included two passengers and nine crew members.

The Boeing 737 belonged to Ukraine International Airlines. The plane crashed due to technical problems after take-off from Iran's Imam Khomeini airport on Wednesday morning.  101/211/205
