Tehran (IP) - Top Parliamentarian said in today's open session that the upheavals of November across the country showed that the pulse of society is not in the hands of the officials in charge.

Iran Press/Iran news: Top member of Iran's Parliament Ali Motahari said: "If the situation was normal, we would put the president's impeachment on the agenda, but the Interior Minister should be impeached."

Motahari's remarks were about gas prices hike that sparked protests across Iran.

He added: "A special quota for gasoline for Nowrouz (New Year Eve) must be considered to ease people's problems."

Motahhari also referred to the upcoming parliamentary elections and called for mass participation of people in the elections.

The top member of Parliament further made the remark that by undermining parliament, the result would be the influence of foreign colonialism and the emergence of domestic autocracy.

"People's participation in elections is important, and we should look for increased turnout. No matter who and which group wins the election, people must vote widely to shut the mouths of the US and Europe," he reiterated.

He went on to say that dividing people into revolutionary and non-revolutionary is not right, Islam is criteria, not revolution.
