Bandar Abbas (IP) - Despite US economic sanctions against Iran, international trade and maritime trade is booming in Iran's largest commercial port.

Iran Press/Iran news: The latest statistics show that oil and non-oil exports from Shahid Rajaee Port in Hormozgan province, south of Iran, have been rising.

"In the past five months, the volume of cargo transportation at Shahid Rajaee Port exceeded 34 million tons, which represents 7 percent growth," said Ellah Murad Afifipour, director of Hormozgan ports and maritime affairs.

Afifipour also pointed to a 15% increase in non-oil exports from the Shahid Rajaee port, saying the volume of annual exports exceeded 16 million tons.

Most of Iran's non-oil export shipments are minerals, steel, and petrochemicals exported to Southeast Asia and the Persian Gulf littoral Arab states.

Shahid Rajaee Port in the Persian Gulf, with a capacity of 100 million tons of cargo annually, is the largest and most important commercial port of Iran. 101/213
