Iran's FM spokesman said that the US statesmen are trying to fuel tensions among the West Asian countries by unfounded claims and accusations.

IranPress/Iran news: The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghassemi rebuked the United States’ anti-Iran policies and said that US politicians are trying to use unfounded and baseless accusations to escalate tensions, crises and political turmoil in West Asia.

Pointing to the dark track record of US policies against the people of the Persian Gulf, especially the Iranian nation, over the past decade, Ghassemi said the American government plays a significant role in the escalation of tensions, crises, insecurity and political turmoil in some West Asian countries, Mehr news agency reported.

His comments come in reaction to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s recent anti-Iran remarks over the Tehran-Baghdad relations, in which he repeated baseless accusations over Iran's influence in the region as a threat to the Middle East security.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said the US will redouble its diplomatic and commercial efforts against Iran.

Ghassemi stressed that Iran’s relations with neighbouring Iraq are based on mutual respect and welcomed by the peoples and governments of the two countries.
