Iranian and United Nations officials discussed in Tehran on Tuesday the latest political developments in Syria.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and UN envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen who has traveled to Tehran, met on Tuesday and discussed a variety of issues relating to Syria, and the latest developments in that country. Zarif and Pedersen also discussed the Astana Peace Process.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia, and Turkey have agreed in Dec.19 to ramp up efforts aimed at convening the first session of a UN-sponsored Syrian Constitutional Committee early next year in a bid to begin a viable peace process to the Syrian war.

Zarif earlier met with his Syrian counterpart Walid al-Muallem who is also in Tehran.
