An Iranian MP, Rasoul Khezri, has strongly condemned the silence of international community and world bodies vis-a-vis former dictator Saddam Hussein's horrible war crimes committed during the eight-year-imposed war on Iran.

Iran News: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Tuesday, Rasoul Khezri, an MP representing Piranshahr and Sardasht, said Iran is a primary victim of chemical weapons and some 75000 Iranians were injured due to Iraq's use of chemical bombs and other deadly weapons during the eight-year-imposed war. Khezri said the silence of World bodies and the international community in relation to Saddam's war crimes is unacceptable.

Khezri pointedly added: "Military equipment, sent by Western countries which supported  Saddam's regime during the war, were used to commit horrid war crimes, but the West kept silent on this issue." Rasoul Khezri added: "Western countries backing Saddam are complicit in his war crimes."

The Iranian MP poignantly added: "The silence of international assemblies emboldened Saddam, giving rise to more anti-human crimes committed by the Ba'athist regime against Iran during the imposed war."

He added: "If the Security Council and the international community had condemned these crimes, Sardasht crimes and then the Halabja chemical attack would not have taken place on 28 June 1987 and then in March 1988."

The Iran–Iraq War lasted from 22 September 1980, when Iraq invaded Iran, until  20 August 1988, when Iran accepted the UN-brokered ceasefire.  208/103
